Today I want to talk about pensiveness. I also want to talk about great thinkers like Yuval Noah Harari or Nicholas Nassim Taleb. But I also want to talk about me because I guess I’m a great thinker and today I still have troubles with recognition.

But first let’s define thinking: it’s just the less intense emotion you will experience when having to deal with sadness and grief. If I wasn’t thinking that much, I don’t know what I would do. Maybe compose a song or plan a travel.

I really don’t like the publicity a French magazine made to Harari: I guess the Israeli lobby’s work paid off. I’m more a fan of Taleb since I’m also Lebanese and I worked in banking 5 years. Thinking is a surprising activity and an ancient philosopher defined thinking as the basis of existence.

Cogito, ergo sum is a Latin philosophical proposition by René Descartes usually translated into English as “I think, therefore I am”. The phrase originally appeared in French as je pense, donc je suis in his Discourse on the Method, so as to reach a wider audience than Latin would have allowed.

What If I Could Make You See?

Now this is very important: pensiveness is just a basic emotion of intensity level 1 (on a scale of 1 to 3). The other emotions are sadness (level 2) and grief (level 3, intense). Pensiveness is a basic emotion but it has competitors like boredom, annoyance, interest, serenity, acceptance, apprehension and distraction.

Lately I was thinking we were the children of boredom. That’s because we live in an environment full of opportunities and we all have FOMO (fear of missing out). The fact that pensiveness, sadness and grief differ only by intensity makes me wonder if people who think still have a hard time with their loved ones who died. They won’t be back and I don’t believe in life after death except if the environment can do something. For example, you and I know I’m Jesus 2: I’m back not because of reincarnation but because Israel was created and I managed to come back in Lebanon from time to time.

What If My Ambition Was Getting High And Watching TV?

You know what I’m talking about: a Quentin Tarantino’s film called Jackie Brown. Lately I thought art was about condemning something or someone. For example, in that movie, we discover a bad mother fucker afraid of the federal government and Robert de Niro shoots Melanie in a moment of madness.

Yes I thought a lot about art lately since music is my main occupation. If we want to condemn, we have to expose things as if it was a mathematical problem. “Endangered species caged in fright, shot in cold blood no chance to fight”. Megadeth knows how to expose things clearly.

Pensiveness level 2 is like sadness and you could relate it to jealousy and ambition. My ambition was very clear: let your soul be your pilot. In French, this word could mean “to annoy”.

Here is what’s bugging me: how come space is so difficult to travel? And I guess music is just a way to pass time because my real job is astronomer. The pay is not awesome even though one could argue I shouldn’t complain. Let your soul be your pilot: in other words, let annoyance, anger and rage be your pilot.

What About Taleb And His Vision Of Enterprise?

I was reading a book by Taleb and stumbled upon his vision of the enterprise: when you create a company, you shouldn’t brag about being virtuous. You should show some rage or maybe try to kill the rage of other people by finding a solution to their troubles.

I don’t want to bore you with my trouble but there’s something about love that makes me weak. Like an intoxication and seeing lymphatic people everywhere.

Lately I had an illumination about lymphatic people which it seems is the future for everybody: they are too careful and lack some realism. The reality is very simple: forever in debt because of this one time where I gave all my soul.

Only the very best: a reasonable request. We’re going to find the best tools available and we’re going to travel in space. This primal world (as I like to call it) will allow us to avoid catastrophes on a regular basis even though we could suffer a bad beat.

The conclusion is simple: avoid the bliss because you will get burned. What are we going to do when invaders come for me and you?
